Château d'Yquem 2017 750ml
Description
A pungent and forceful nose with notes of saffron and dried apricots. Crisp, vibrant and driven on the palate, there is plenty of acidity to balance the concentration and alcohol here, along with an intriguing fresh mint note. Finishes with an appealing line of minerality. Sandrine Garbay commented that the Sémillon grape skins were slightly infected by botrytis, combating any tendency to bitterness in the blend. 80% of the blend was aged in used Yquem barrels with 20% new oak.
Yquem is the greatest sweet wine of Bordeaux and without doubt one of the world's most famous wines. The 2017 Yquem is a very powerful wine from a very rich and exceptional vintage. Made from a blend of 75% semillon and 25% sauvignon blanc that has been infected with the "noble rot", Botrytis Cinerea. The result is a rich, decadent and complex wine that is appealing in its youth, yet can age and improve for decades. The exquisite perfection of its balance and power is second to none and why Yquem remains the Bordeaux symbol of perfection and tradition.
Tasting Notes: Smooth, glossy texture with flavors of grilled orange, dried apricot and an exceptionally long finish with a powerful, driving push to the end. A flicker of toasty-oak influence arrives late, but this wine has completely consumed the oak.
